Home / About EPHC: Priority Projects / Roles and Responsibilities / Common Standards for Data Collection, Storage & Use

The Commonwealth chairs the group developing these standards.

The issue of compatibility of databases has been discussed by Commonwealth and State/Territory agencies involved in heritage database development, and it has been agreed that this can be achieved with the adoption of common data exchange standards.

Some principles for standards and data types; data scope; database platforms; and data quality, have been identified, and are to be considered by all jurisdictions.

An Action Plan will then be developed in consultation with relevant agencies in all jurisdictions.

It is anticipated that the draft Action Plan will be completed for consideration by Council at its first meeting in 2003. An Implementation Plan for staged delivery of compatible data will also be developed, and agreement reached on a common portal for access to National and State lists.
