Home / NEPMs Explained / Ambient Air Quality / Review of OzonePRELIMINARY WORK ON OZONE FOR THE REVIEW OF THE AMBIENT AIR QUALITY NEPM In 1998, the NEPC made the Ambient Air Quality NEPM which sets national ambient air quality standards to apply in all States and Territories and over land controlled by the Commonwealth. These standards cover six criteria pollutants – particles (as PM10), ozone, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and lead. In May 2003, the Ambient Air Quality NEPM was varied to include advisory reporting standards for PM2.5. A full review of the Ambient Air Quality NEPM is due to commence this year. The full range of issues related to the air quality standards for ozone will be considered in that reveiw. including the maximum levels that should be set for ozone in outdoor air. An Issues Paper was prepared as part of preliminary work being carried out on a sub-set of issues for ozone, in advance of the full review. Comment on the Issues Paper was sought from a range of industry, community and government stakeholders. The Report on the Preliminary Work for the Review of the Ozone Standard, the Summary of Submissions Report, the Issues Paper and background documents can be downloaded below.
