ASSESSMENT OF SITE CONTAMINATION NEPM 1999

The purpose of the NEPM is to establish a nationally-consistent approach to the assessment of site contamination to ensure sound environmental management practices by the community which includes regulators, site assessors, contaminated land auditors, land owners, developers and industry

Variation to the NEPM
On 2 June 2007, NEPC agreed to initiate a process to vary the Assessment of Site Contamination NEPM based on recommendations made in the NEPM review. Click here for information on the review.

The proposed variation will ensure that the NEPM remains the premier document for the assessment of site contamination in Australia by drawing on the latest methodologies for assessing human and ecological risk from contaminated sites, and updating guidance on site assessment methods in line with technological changes in Australia and overseas.

The NEPM contains two schedules:
- Schedule A identifies the recommended process for the Assessment of Site Contamination. (Schedule A is included in the NEPM)
- Schedule B of the NEPM identifies 10 general guidelines for the Assessment of Site Contamination. (Schedules B(1) – (10) can be downloaded below.)

These schedules will be reviewed during the variation of the NEPM. If you would like to remain informed of the progress of the variation, click here to register your details.

Information about the implementation of the Assessment of Site Contamination NEPM can be found in NEPC Annual Reports.
