Home / NEPMs Explained / NEPC ProtocolNEPC ProtocolsThe National Environment Protection Council (NEPC) Act requires that prior to a National Environment Protection Measure (NEPM) being made, a notice of intention to prepare a draft NEPM must be given. The legislation also requires that a draft NEPM and Impact Statement must be made available for public comment. The NEPC recognises that broadly based consultation contributes to the development of effective NEPMs. The NEPC Protocols describe the processes NEPC will adopt to ensure that NEPM scoping, development, review and assessment is productive and transparent.
EPHC/NEPC filter criteriaThe filter criteria are used by EPHC/NEPC as an initial screening tool, which provides guidance as to whether an issue should be addressed nationally, and if so, the preferred mechanism (eg NEPM or otherwise) and the most appropriate national forum through which the issue should be managed.
