Please contact the relevant jurisdictional agency regarding detailed implementation information for this NEPM. Decisions about the way in which NEPMs are implemented are made by each jurisdiction individually.
In late 2010, the NEPC made a Minor Variation to the NEPM to provide greater clarity, remove unnecessary regulatory burden and remove clauses that are no longer required.
In February 2011, drafting errors in the 2010 Minor Variation were identified. NEPC has commenced a second Minor Variation to correct these errors.
In December 2021, the NEPC made a Minor Variation to the NEPM to address drafting errors identified in the Measure as varied in 2010 that altered the intention of the NEPM.
Movement of Controlled Waste NEPM Goal:
To assist in achieving the desired environmental outcomes by providing a basis for ensuring that controlled wastes which are to be moved between States and Territories are properly identified, transported, and otherwise handled in ways which are consistent with environmentally-sound practices for the management of these wastes.
Desired Environmental Outcomes:
To minimise the potential for adverse impacts associated with the movement of controlled waste on the environment and human health.
