The former Standing Council for Environment and Water considered options for implementing national product standards to control emissions from a range of products and equipment. The management of emissions from non-road engines and equipment, including marine engines, was considered in this context.
This information received through the public consultation processes will help to inform policy development related to managing emissions from non-road spark ignition engines and equipment.
Consultation RIS
In November 2008, the then Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) approved the preparation of a Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) canvassing options for reducing emissions from new non-road spark ignition engines and equipment. A Consultation RIS was released on 25 May 2010, closing on 27 July 2010.

Additional consultation
Further targeted consultation was then conducted in 2012 to include consumers who would be affected by regulations and who were noticeably absent from the original submissions. The non confidential submissions are presented below.
Consultation Summary Report
A Consultation Summary Report was then prepared. The report is an overview of the main matters that were raised in 91 submissions regarding the Consultation RIS. The report should be read in conjunction with the Consultation RIS and associated documents.
